Kentucky Joins 11 Other States Suing Obama Administration For Supporting Trans Rights

"The Obama administration’s transgender policy 'guidelines' are an absurd federal overreach into a local issue."

Despite passing discriminatory "religious freedom" bills in the past, Kentucky was not named as one of the 11 original states that announced they'd be suing the Obama administration this past week over its directive to let trans children use the bathroom that matches their gender identity.

That changed yesterday, however, when Republican Governor Matt Bevin announced that the state that brought us Kim Davis would be joining other states like Texas and Alabama in the lawsuit against the federal government.

In a press release, Bevin said, "The federal government has no authority to dictate local school districts’ bathroom and locker room policies. The Obama administration’s transgender policy 'guidelines' are an absurd federal overreach into a local issue."

Bevin also called out Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear, saying he was "unwilling to protect Kentucky's control over local issues," but Beshear quickly fired back, saying the governor's words were "not truthful."

"On the day the federal government issued its guidance, the governor stated he was researching legal options," Beshear said in a release of his own. "I expected to be consulted on those options, but my office has not received a single phone call from the governor or his attorneys on this matter."
