Kevin Hart Scores First Hosting Gig After Pulling Out of Oscars

The comedian quit the Academy Awards amid backlash surrounding his homophobic history.

Lady Gaga isn't the only celebrity making headlines in Vegas.

Kevin Hart has booked his first hosting gig after stepping down from hosting the 91st Academy Awards amid backlash surrounding his homophobic Twitter history.

Hart repeatedly made anti-gay comments in a series of now-deleted tweets between 2009 and 2011, even threatening his son with violence if he caught him playing with dolls, and insulted various celebrities by calling them “gay” or “fag.”

The comedian announced this week in an Instagram video that he will be hosting a weekend-long New Year’s Eve celebration at Drai’s Nightclub in Vegas along with rappers Fabulous, Big Sean, Future, and Lil’ Wayne, which he calls "one of the biggest and best lineups in the world."

Lil’ Wayne famously officiated a gay wedding while in prison.

“It’s not going to be any bigger, it’s not going to get any better," Hart continued. "Let’s bring the new year in right. Let’s bring it in with a smile, baby. We live, love, and laugh."

"I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past," Hart wrote earlier this month on social media. "I am evolving and want to continue to do so."

The 39-year-old entertainer initially failed to issue an apology, insisting he had addressed the situation “several times” already. On Instagram he told people to “stop looking for reasons to be angry,” claiming he would “stand his ground” and not “feed the internet trolls.”

The Oscars will be held on February 24, 2019, but a replacement host has not yet been announced.

Hart's latest movie, The Upside, is in theaters January 11.
