Logo's Kevyn Aucoin Documentary Wins Daytime Emmy
The Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards were held this past weekend, and Logo walked away with an award for Outstanding Special Class Special for the documentary, Kevyn Aucoin: Beauty & The Beast In Me.
The doc, directed by Lori Kaye, explores the life, career, and legacy of the superstar makeup artist and House of Style regular, who passed away in 2002 at age 40, the victim of an undiagnosed pituitary tumor, and a dependence on painkillers to manage his illness.
MTV also won an award for Outstanding Daytime Promotional Announcement – Topical for its special, Undocumented and Unafraid: Forbidden.
Written and directed by Tiffany Rhynard, the film follows Moises Serrano, a 26-year-old gay activist as he travels through his home state of North Carolina, telling his story, and advocating for the rights of undocumented immigrants like himself.
In addition to Logo and MTV winning for queer content, Amazon's original animated series, Danger & Eggs won for Outstanding Directing in an Animated Program.
The series is the brainchild of transgender comics author Shadi Petosky, and stars D.D. Danger (SNL’s Aidy Bryant) and her best friend—a giant, talking egg named Phillip (Eric Knobel)—as they create games for each other in Chickenpaw Park.
Danger & Eggs has been lauded for its queer-inclusive characters and storylines.
The 45th Annual Daytime Emmys were held the following day, Sunday, April 29, where the long-running soap, Days of Our Lives, walked away with five awards including Outstanding Drama Series.
