Kick-Ass Slays the Silver Screen. We likey.

The costumes, the camp, the alienated strife and Adam4Adam-like handles—yes, superheroes are pretty damn gay. And while I'll gladly geek out any chance I get, few movies manage to giddily upend the genre and have me randomly fantasizing about karate chopping strangers on the street for days after the screening.

That'd be Kick-Ass , which does just that as it hilariously and viscerally shows what happens when everyday people stop being polite and start acting surreal. With its slick mix of Tarantino ultra-violence, the awkward talky nerdom of Napoleon Dynamite and 11-year-olds dropping the C-bomb, it's the most fun I've had at a comic movie in a long time. (Cough. We're looking at you, Hugh Jackman.)

Add on the adorakable Aaron Johnson as the titular star and a funny subplot that does sly justice to gay-straight boys everywhere and you've got a bloody slice of hipster fanboy heaven. Summer movie season, we've got high hopes for you!

Check out its controversial red-band trailer after the jump (and yup, the language is very NSFW). Kurt Loder reviews it here.
