Kiki & Herb Are Back And "Seeking Asylum"!: THEATER

Plus: Glenn Close is back in "Sunset Boulevard," The Tonys are moving, and more!

It's as if she never said good-bye: As has been rumored Glenn Close will reprise her Tony-winning diva turn as Norma Desmond in a semi-staged production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard, coming to the London Coliseum this spring.

Patti LuPone created the role on the West End in 1993 and was contracted to bring the show to Broadway, but was famously fired. Close opened the L.A. production, and was to be replaced by Faye Dunaway, who herself was let go. The Fatal Attraction star eventually created the role on Broadway.

Last year, Donna Murphy lead a reading of Sunset Boulevard, directed by Hedwig's Michael Mayer. Close is also said to be starring in an upcoming film adaptation of the show.

The London stage revival will be directed by Lonny Prince.

The Hills Are Revived!

The Sound of Music officially launched a national tour last week at L.A.'s Ahmanson Theatre. Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic is being staged by Hairspray's Jack O'Brien, and stars fresh face Kerstin Anderson as Maria, Ben Davis as the Captain, and Mary Poppins' Ashley Brown as Mother Abbess.

The show was last on Broadway in the late 90s, with Rebecca Luker as Maria, and on NBC in 2013 with Carrie Underwood in the lead and Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess.

The Sound of Music tour will play Baltimore, Philadelpia, Atlanta, Boston and other cities.

The Tonys Are Moving (Again)

It looks like the Tony Awards are heading back to the Beacon: The ultimate Broadway honors has once again been shunned by Radio City Music Hall, whose Spring Spectacular is moving to summertime. The Tonys have been held at Radio City 16 times, but were moved to the smaller Beacon in 2011 and 2012.

The 2015 Tonys telecast, with co-hosts Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming, saw record-low ratings for the show. This year's Tonys will air June 5 live on CBS.

Kiki & Herb Come Back To Life

Alt-cabret stars Justin Vivan Bond and Kenny Mellman, haven't performed together since 2008, but this spring they're reuniting as the legendary lounge act that earned a Tony nomination and scores of fans around the world.

"We had to step away. We were so deeply in it," Mellman told the New York Times. “What makes it special makes it dangerous. There’s a lot of intensity and a lot of craziness."

Their new show, Seeking Asylum!, plays at Joe's Pub beginning April 21, and will explain what the drunk septuagenarian lounge musicians have been up since last we saw them.

It'll be one for the history books!

Mark Your Calendar

We first learned of Mark MacKillop via Room Fourteen, the coffee-table book he released documenting a year spent in hotel rooms while touring with West Side Story.

Mark's easy on the eyes but now he's getting back to his performance roots with a one-man show at L.A.'s Rockwell on October 18.

From the press notes: "Singing standards from the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s, MacKillop takes the audience on his journey this past year from an aspiring musical theater performer to a world famous taker of scantily-clad selfies in this self-deprecating, tongue-in-cheek guide to becoming ‘famous’ in 2015."

MacKillop also promises appearances by Alex Newell and Drew Droege. Get tickets to An Evening with Mark MacKillop here.

Hot Daddy

Peter Parnell's Dada Woof Papa Hot comes to Lincoln Center's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater on October 15.

An all-star staff—including Patrick Breen, Tammy Blanchard and John Benjamin Hickey—explore the realities of gay parenting and question whether there's something unique about being a gay dad.

Alan and Rob, parents to a 3-year-old daughter, become friends with a young gay couple, Scott and Jason. As their friendship deepens, Alan deals with his attraction to a younger dad, and sees his straight friend's marriage collapse around him.

Scott Ellis (The Elephant Man, On The Twentieth Century, You Can’t Take It With You) directs.
