"King Of Country PR" Kirt Webster Steps Down After Man Accuses Him Of Sexual Assault

Webster, whose clients included Dolly Parton and Kid Rock, created a "culture of fear," say ex-employees.

An influential publicist in the Nashville music scene is stepping away from his PR firm after being accused of sexual assault and harassment.

Kirt Webster, who has worked with musicians including Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers and Kid Rock, has been accused by his former client, Austin Rick, of drugging and sexually assaulting the singer when he was trying to break into the music scene.

In a Facebook post last week, Rick wrote that Webster did "terrible, terrible things to me," including offering "publicity opportunities and magazine columns in exchange for sexual acts."

"He did everything under threat that he'd make sure nobody in the industry ever heard my name again," he added. "It took me a year to escape from him and get away to where he couldn't find me or reach me any longer—although he still continued to harass me via phone and text messages."

Although Webster argued that the claims were "untrue" and "opportunistic," saying that he and Rick were actually in a "brief relationship" at the time, 10 former employees who worked at Webster Public Relations have since stepped forward to accuse the publicist of creating a "culture of fear through sexual harassment."

The workers told The Tennessean that some of Webster's alleged behavior in the office included unsolicited touching, doling out vulgar nicknames to employees and trading meet-and-greet passes with Dolly Parton for naked photos of male fans.

"So many of Dolly’s fans are gay men who were willing to do anything to meet her and he would take advantage of that," a former female employee said. "He showed [the photographs] around the office, bragging."

Despite Webster stepping down from his company, Webster PR is not closing. Instead, it will be rebranded as Westby PR, named after the recent senior vice president of the firm, Jeremy Westby.
