Kylie Minogue Recalls The Time She Lost A Kylie Drag Competition
As Kylie Minogue continues on the U.S. talk show circuit to promote her latest album, Golden, she swung by The Late Late Show with James Corden to talk country music influences, and drag queens, of course.
Corden—who Kylie duetted with on her holiday album, Kylie Christmas—brought up how the "Slow" singer is popular in the LGBT community, and asked her if she had ever been to a Kylie-themed drag show.
"I have! I was the least Kylie of all the Kylies," she admitted. Kylie goes onto explain how she had been to see the '90s rock band The Lemonheads earlier in the evening, and so she was dressed as a "hippie" version of herself at the drag show.
"I didn't know I was going to end up in this gay club on drag night, so I wasn't in 'full flight,'" Kylie explained. She did not win the Kylie drag competition, noting that she didn't stand a chance as she was there "in a little hippie outfit next to four robust Kylies."
"I need to make a bit more of an effort next time," she added.
This sounds a lot like the story Dolly Parton has told for years about how she entered a Dolly drag queen lookalike competition and lost. Fitting that the stories are similar since while talking with Corden, Kylie also told the story about meeting Dolly backstage at L.A.'s Hollywood Bowl in 2016, and how Kylie "fell to pieces" when she met the country queen.
We would do the same, Kylie.
