Lady Gaga and her creative director Laurieann Gibson have gone their separate ways, according to confirmed reports to MTV and The Hollywood Reporter this morning. Gibson began working with Gaga when she was signed to Interscope, starting with choreography for the 2008 "Beautiful, Dirty, Rich" video and continuing through tracks like "Just Dance," "Poker Face," "Love Game," "Paparazzi" and "Bad Romance."  She also provided artistic direction for the Telephone," "Alejandro" and "Born This Way" music videos, as a solid member of Gaga’s elite inner circle.

Tensions reportedly began to fray between Gaga and Gibson this summer, seeded in disagreements over the direction of “Judas” ands its overt religious symbolism and then scrapped plans for a “Edge of Glory” video that resulted in a stripped down fire-escape set.  When filming for “You and I” rolled around, Gaga confirmed that Gibson's former #2, Richard Jackson, was her new choreographer on the performance.

It will be interesting to see when the new clip airs just how much of Gibson’s influence is part of the Gaga brand, and how much further Gaga might go without Gibson’s input.  Gibson, in her own right, has been striking out on her own in advance of this split, with a starring role in the BET dance competition show "Born to Dance" and another dance reality series, E!'s "The Dance Scene."

MediaTakeOut also pointed out another seed of contention between Gaga and Gibson -- Gibson gave a quote to the LATimes about being responsible for Gaga’s style and modeling her after Madonna, a charge Gaga has fought to distance herself from --

“Listen, [Madonna] should be bitter because I [made Lady Gaga in her image] on purpose and you can quote me. I did it on purpose because for all those kids who believe that you can’t, I wanted to let them feel that you can,” Gibson told the LATimes.

Gaga is currently in London after just taping a performance for X Factor.  Her Thanksgiving special will air next week.
