I was not expecting the follow-up to Born This Way to be ”I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” but here we are. Lady Gaga is going to record a jazz album with Tony Bennett.
Last year, they recorded a spectacular duet of “Lady Is a Tramp,”and apparently, they just couldn’t get enough of each other’s cool-cat style.
I think this is an exciting idea, and I hope they really do it. (Lots of projects gets announced and then never happen, you know?) Gaga actually has the vocal and musical chops to succeed on a jazz record, and she has the personality to make it interesting, not just a collection of warmed-over standards. So why not? It’s not like she’d have to abandon her pop career forever, and while she’s sliding over to the jazz side of the street, she might reveal some new facets of her talent.
