Lady Gaga recently interviewed with French radio station Europe 1 and she took the opportunity to call out everyone’s favorite potentate—Pope Benedict XVI!
No, the pope didn’t call her fat. But in response to a recent move by the French government to legalize same-sex marriage, his holiness did give many of Gaga’s friends and fans the proverbial bitch slap.
“Marriage and the family are institutions that must be promoted and defended from every possible misrepresentation of their true nature,” the pope said, in a statement that also referred to homosexuality as “a conception of human nature that is proven to be defective.”
Lady Gaga did not mince words in her reaction.
“What the pope thinks of being gay does not matter,” she said, “It doesn’t matter to the world. It matters to the people who like the pope and follow the pope. It’s not a reflection of all Christians. It is not a reflection of all religious people. It’s a point of view of one person.”
So the next time you’re pulling on a v-neck tee shirt and suddenly start to have one of those “But what would the pope think?” moments, remember: It doesn’t matter. So sayeth Lady Gaga.
