In early August, we were one of the many blogs that posted Lana Del Ray’s captivating, haunting first single “Video Games.” Then everybody was all shocked, SHOCKED that our girl LDR wasn’t as “authentic” as they’d thought. Her real name is Lizzie Grant? She has managers and lawyers? Will this lack of confidence spread to other indie acts? Is the political capital available among Pitchfork reviewers for an authenticity bailout fund?
The inevitable backlash that followed hasn’t done much to slow down Lana’s output in recent weeks though. In fact, everything that Del Ray has been releasing lately has definitely lived up to “Video Games” promise, if not surpassing it. There’s the retro swagger and catchy lyrics of “You Can Be The Boss:”

And the Club Clique for the Bad Girls Remix (two guys from Manchester) of “Video Games” takes that first single to the dance floor:

Thanks UK! “Video Games” is set for an official release October 9th. Find out about Lana Del Ray (all we still really know about her is that she’s supposedly a “gangster Nancy Sinatra” and her Dad buys website domains, so…) and upcoming tour dates on her site.
