What Cancellation? Lana Wachowski Writing Third Season For "Sense8"

She still believes in the power of persuasive fans.

Sense8 was not renewed for a third season, but series co-creator Lana Wachowski isn't quite ready to let go.

While being interviewed for a Facebook Live session during Vancouver Pride with Sense8 actors Brian J. Smith, Toby Onwumere, and Max Riemelt, the showrunner revealed that in addition to a two-hour series finale, she's also writing an entire third season, Konbini reports.

Speaking of herself in the third person, Wachowski said, "She's writing... because she believes so much in the fans—that they're going to go out and actually create so many more fans—Lana's actually going ahead and writing the entire season 3."

Will Netflix be pressured to renew the LGBT-inclusive show for a third season, or could the series be miraculously picked up by another network?

After news first broke that Netflix would not be renewing Sense8 for a third season—due in part to each episode costing $9 million—devastated fans appealed to the streaming service with a Change.org petition that garnered more than 500,000 signatures.

When Netflix announced in June that the series would conclude next year with a two-hour finale, Wachowski posted a letter online thanking the fans for encouraging Netflix to greenlight the conclusion. "After that," she wrote, "if this experience has taught me anything, you NEVER know.”

Joined by members of the cast and crew, Wachowski shares a similar sentiment from the Sense8 set in a new video posted by Netflix. “I think it requires a moment to just take a breath, to appreciate it, to look around, admire the holy shitness of it all, because what you fans did is quite frankly unbelievable,” she says. “It happened, you did it, it’s real.”

In the meantime, the two-hour series finale is expected to air in 2018.
