La’Porsha Renae “Deeply Apologizes” For Saying She Doesn’t Agree With LGBT “Lifestyle”

The singer also stated that she's firmly against any law that is based in discrimination.

Now that the confetti from the American Idol finale has settled, runner-up and fan favorite La’Porsha Renae has had some time to think about her offensive comments regarding the LGBT community and is now trying to make amends.

“I am one of the people who don’t really agree with that lifestyle,” Renae said after the finale, in regards to gay people. “I wasn’t brought up that way. It wasn’t how I was raised.”

After receiving immediate backlash, the singer tweeted, “We don’t have to agree with each other’s life choices to love/respect one another. Live and let live. #RENAETION#RespectThatWeAreDifferent.”

La’Porsha eventually sat down with TV Line and took the opportunity to say, “I deeply apologize,” as well as agree that she had been “offensive by using the word ‘lifestyle.'”

She also admitted that although she doesn’t know a lot about Mississippi’s new anti-gay law, she is “firmly” against any legislation that is based in discrimination.

Do you think the reality star should be given time to adjust her views now that her eyes are being opened to new things outside of her small town? Or is it too late to forgive the belting diva for her original bigoted statement?
