That sound you just heard was every theater queen gasping as they clutched their faded I’m With Her t-shirt.
In today’s big Broadway news, it was announced that Laurie Metcalf will be playing Hillary Clinton in a new play, Hillary and Clinton, from playwright Lucas Hnath, who wrote A Doll’s House, Part 2.
It was also announced that John Lithgow will play Hillary’s husband, former President Bill Clinton.
“Behind closed doors in the state of New Hampshire during the early days of 2008, a former First Lady named Hillary (Metcalf) is in a desperate bid to save her troubled campaign for President of the United States,” reads the description. “Her husband, Bill (Lithgow), sees things one way; her campaign manager, Mark, sees things another. If any of this sounds familiar, don’t be fooled; in a universe of infinite possibilities, anything that can happen, will.”
Joe Mantello, who last directed The Boys in the Band revival this past summer, will helm the new production. He also directed Metcalf in Three Tall Women, which earned her a second Tony. Hillary and Clinton will also be produced by Scott Rudin.
We know Hillary and Bill are big theater fans, will they come see themselves brought to life onstage?
Hillary and Clinton begins previews March 16, 2019, with an official opening night set for Thursday, April 18. The Broadway venue has yet to be announced, but we are all ready set to camp out for tickets.
