How Laverne Cox Helped Fox Revive "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"

"When we found Laverne we felt 'now we have a reason to do this!'"

Some were stunned Fox was remaking The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but the team behind the new musical, including director Kenny Ortega and producer Lou Adler, are confident fans will embrace the new Rocky—especially Laverne Cox's portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

"We've been trying for years to do something but we really never felt secure in Frank-N-Furter," says executive producer Lou Adler in a new behind-the-scenes video, below.

"When we found Laverne we felt 'now we have a reason to do this!' She's just sensational. No one's going to compare her to Tim [Curry], it's just a completely different ballgame."

"Kenny's vision is about really honoring the intention of what Richard O'Brien originally wrote," Cox says. "We have 40 years of this film that's existed because of amazing, amazing fans."

The Rocky Horror Picture Show airs October 20 on Fox.
