Leelah Alcorn Funeral Moved After Threats On Parents, Candlelight Vigil Held

Across the Internet, heartbroken allies and advocates are demanding justice in the death of Leelah Alcorn, a 17-year-old transgender girl who committed suicide and left a note detailing how her Christian parents tried to "cure" her.

Some have taken to threatening the Alcorns with physical harm, leading the couple to move Leelah's funeral to a private location. Mourners who arrived for the service yesterday found a note announcing the postponement.

"The times and dates had been publicized, and the family's received threats," said Jeff Hartmann, of Hodapp Funeral Home. The private service was held Friday morning.

Candlelight vigils were held last night in Columbus and Cleveland, with more scheduled for this weekend. Activists are using #StandUp4Leelah to share thoughts and photographs.
