“Legendary” Brings It to the Ball in First Trailer for New HBO Max Series

"If you slay, you stay."

HBO Max is serving the children.

HBO announced Tuesday that its new streaming service, HBO Max, is headed our way on May 27. Along with the premiere announcement, HBO Max also dropped trailers for the new shows that will be available upon its launch, including Legendary, the highly anticipated ball competition series.

In case you need a refresher, here's the show's official description: "Legendary turns modern-day ball culture into a competition, featuring divas battling on teams called 'Houses' in challenges involving fashion, dance, and voguing. Each house is comprised of five performers and a leader. The nine-episode series features the teams facing off against one another for a trophy and cash prize. Each episode features a different themed ball and extensive footage of the competitors preparing behind the scenes."

The cast of Legendary includes MC Dashaun Wesley and DJ MikeQ, as well as celebrity judges Law Roach, Jameela Jamil, Leiomy Maldonado, and Megan Thee Stallion.

Jamil made headlines in February when her casting announcement received backlash because people were upset her spot didn't go to a queer person with knowledge of the ballroom scene. The British star of NBC's The Good Place eventually came out as queer, later admitting the timing of her news was a "perfect clusterfuck."

In the new Legendary trailer, viewers can catch a glimpse of Jamil strutting her stuff down the runway—and quick glances at the eight houses competing on the series.

"It is one of the greatest American art forms that has ever been created," says a voiceover in the dip-filled preview. We would have to agree, darling!
