Lena Waithe Wants a “Really Gay Ass Black Person” to Host the Oscars

But not her though.

Lena Waithe is weighing in on the Kevin Hart controversy.

At the Golden Globes on Sunday (January 6), the openly gay, multihyphenated creator told Variety she hopes we can all learn from this moment.

"We gotta make sure that the gay community is no longer the butt of the joke," says Waithe. "I think we gotta make this a teachable moment."

Waithe added, "I don't think [Hart] understood the ramifications of what he said. We should stand firm in what we did and try to challenge everybody else not to do that kind of thing anymore."

As for a host for the 91st ceremony taking place on February 24, Waithe suggests Wanda Sykes.

"I like the idea of a really gay ass black person hosting," she says. "Wanda would be amazing."

Waithe also took time to recognize Ryan Murphy's hit show Pose, and the visibility it brings to the LGBTQ community.

"There should be more Poses. We need more Poses," Waithe told Jeremy Blacklow, GLAAD’s Director of Entertainment Media. "Because there’s a lot of kids that watch that show and it’s changing lives, so let’s continue to do that."

Waithe's latest project is a TV adaptation of the 1992 classic, Boomerang. The show airs on BET February 12.
