"Nancy" Co-Host Kathy Tu's Hilarious Advice On Law School, Being Queer, And "Xena: Warrior Princess"

"None of your friends will mind or even really care that you’re queer, so good job on making good friends."

This letter is part of our inaugural editorial series, "Letter to Myself," in which we asked 40 remarkable queer people to write a note to their younger selves.

Dear 8-Year-Old Kathy,

You’re doing great. Keep doing you. Also, a show called Xena: Warrior Princess is about to start. You’re gonna love it.

Dear 15-year-old Kathy: Stop writing to John Candy for his autograph. I know you love Uncle Buck and Cool Runnings and The Great Outdoors, but he has sadly passed away.

Dear 22-year-old Kathy: I'm keeping this short because you're not going to listen to me anyway. First of all, you are not busy. Stop saying that. Second, I know you’re in your first relationship with a girl, and it’s fun and exciting and new. But also, perhaps consider the idea that this relationship might end. Not saying it will, but it could. Just entertain that idea a little bit. It’ll be helpful in the long run. By the way, none of your friends will mind or even really care that you’re queer, so good job on making good friends (and you’ll like the word "queer" one day).

Lastly, the next 10 years of your life are going to be a rollercoaster. You’re gonna love it.

Oh also, law school is expensive. Just, you know, have a think on that.

Love,

32-Year-Old Kathy
