Percentage Of LGBT Characters On TV Actually Decreasing

The fine folks over at GLAAD just released their annual Network Responsibility Index and Where We Are on TV report, a report that tracks LGBT content on networks during the 2012-13 TV season and looks ahead to the 2013-14  season. And, well, things are not looking good for us gays and gay characters on television in the coming year.

It seems that, somehow, the percentage of gay characters on television will decrease over the next year, with only 3.3% of primetime broadcast scripted series regulars being LGBT characters. What's worse, this is down a full percent from 2012-13, where 4.4% were LGBT characters. Why you gotta ditch the gays primetime broadcast scripted series?

As far the networks that rated the best for inclusive hours on networks, the usual suspects topped the list, with ABC Family (nome of The Fosters) at 50%, Fox (aka Glee) at 42% and ABC ( thanks toModern Family) at 30 % leading the pack. Online shows are not measured, but we assume Netflix, which airs  Orange Is The New Black, would likely have an even hire rank.

The big losers, somewhat shockingly, were CBS and NBC. As a total network, CBS scored a 1.9% and NBC a dismal 1%. NBC, we remind you, the network that changed everything with Will & Grace, has the least gay characters on primetime. When CBS beats you, it is just embarrassing.
