Queer Water Polo Team Throws Shade With RuPaul’s “Read U Wrote U”

The Sydney Stingers came to slay.

The Sydney Stingers, an LGBTQ-inclusive team of water polo players from Down Under, have released a video parody of RuPaul’s diss track “Read U Wrote U.”

The Stingers rewrote the lyrics to trash talk their competition at the upcoming Gay Games in Paris. The 10th edition of the sporting event, held August 4–12, is expected to welcome 10,000 participants from more than 80 countries.

To become cocky video hos, the sexy players stripped down to their Paris Gay Games swimwear, or “togs,” which feature the Stingers logo and a rainbow-puking kangaroo, naturally.

“’A’ to the ’U’ to the ’S’ to the ‘tralia,’ oh, that’s right, our moves are gonna slay ya,” the team raps.

Ivan Buckingham directed the video with fellow Stingers Nathen Brown and Nicola Ghirardi at Sydney’s Circular Quay, home of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

“We want to tell the Gay Games competitors and the ‘Champagne waterpolo league’ that the Stingers are coming to Paris, in full force,” Buckingham tells Gay Star News. “It’s a bit of a smackdown video, and a whole lot of fun.”

“We really wanted to be quintessentially Aussie,” he explains, “so the characters are: a surfer/lifesaver, Aerobics Oz-Style, Kylie Minogue, Crocodile Dundee, and a kind of leather/cub cliche.”

Alaska, Detox, Katya, and Roxxxy Andrews famously wrote their own raps when performing “Read U Wrote U” for the RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2 finale challenge.
