Lil Nas X Shares Surprising Plans to Celebrate Breaking Mariah Carey’s "Billboard" Record

"Old Town Road" continues its runaway success streak.

Lil Nas X appears on the verge of breaking the Billboard Hot 100 record for longest-running No. 1 single with "Old Town Road," and he already knows how he'll celebrate.

"Instead of doing my usual crying in the bathtub for five hours, I'll cut it down to three," he joked, when asked by a TMZ interviewer how he'd mark the occasion. When pressed if that was really all he would do, he came up with another idea: "I may buy Mariah Carey some roses and send them to her, cause I love her."

If "Old Town Road" can hang on to the No. 1 spot for a 17th week it will beat out the Mariah Carey and Boys II Men collaboration "One Sweet Day," with which it has tied at 16 weeks.

Lil Nas X recently invited Carey to record a remix of his hit song via Twitter, and she responded with a tweet of her own that suggested she was game.

However, Carey told TMZ she doubts anyone wants to hear that remix. When asked if she was worried about the young rapper taking down her record, she replied, "Darling, no."

In less happy news for Lil Nas X, he has been hit with a $25 million lawsuit by music publisher The Music Force for an unauthorized sample of Bobby Caldwell’s “Carry On” for a song of the same name featured on his mixtape Nasarati.
