Charli XCX to Lil Nas X: You're a Winner, Baby

A GLAAD Media Award winner, that is!

He's taking his horse from the old town road to the GLAAD Media Awards' virtual stage.

Lil Nas X has won Outstanding Music Artist at this year's GLAAD Media Awards, live-streamed on GLAAD's YouTube and Facebook this past Thursday, July 30. The genre-defying artist exploded onto the scene with "Old Town Road," his chart-topping country-rap single from 2019. He later came out as gay on social media, an announcement that was met with an outpouring of support from LGBTQ and allied fans alike.

Like pretty much every other IRL event this year, the GLAAD Media Awards went online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. But the celebration was as queer as ever. Comedians Fortune Feimster and Gina Yashere hosted, and celebs like Chloe x Halle, the cast and producers of Pose, and Dolly Parton made appearances.

The singer's GLAAD Media Award was presented by honorary "gay rights!" queen Charli XCX. In his acceptance speech, Lil Nas X sent his love to everyone "through these crazy, trying times with COVID-19 and everything."

"I'm happy to even be a part of this right now," he added. "I can't wait to show you guys what I'm doing next."

We're still waiting for that next album, which Lil Nas X has promised will explore his queer identity. Until then, watch Lil Nas X's acceptance speech below, and tune in for the full GLAAD Media Awards ceremony this Monday, August 3 at 8/7c on Logo.
