Russia’s treatment of its LGBT citizens and how the global community should respond is the subject of great debate. Right now NewNowNext is hosting Logo Town Hall: Russia vs. The Gays, a one-hour, live-stream discussion presented in conjunction with AllOut.org, the nonprofit devoted to defending the international LGBT community.
Moderated by newscaster Jared Max, the forum includes Olympic diver Greg Louganis, All Out co-founder Andre Banks, Nina Long of RUSA LGBT and Roman Mamonov, a Russian journalist who moved to New York nine months ago and has applied for asylum. “The world is responding in unprecedented ways to Putin’s crackdown on human rights,” says Banks. “It is critical as the movement grows, that we all remain informed.” will explore Russia’s gay “propaganda” law and the international response — which has included a boycott on Russian products — as well as the debate surrounding U.S. participation in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. ”The world is responding in unprecedented ways to Putin’s crackdown on human rights,” says Banks. “It is critical as the movement grows, that we all remain informed.”
