Meet the Logo30: Alex Newell

This Pride, the actor-singer is soaring.

Every day during the month of June, we will be spotlighting our 2021 Logo30. This powerful series profiles ordinary and extraordinary people who show pride in unique and provocative ways. Visit the Logo30 homepage to view current and past honorees.

Alex Newell is a true force of nature. Since getting his big break on The Glee Project and Glee, the gender non-conforming actor-singer has consistently been turning out club bops for years. Not only that, but he also brought the house down eight times a week as Asaka, Mother of the Earth and one of the primordial gods in the Broadway smash-hit Once on This Island.

Newell currently stars as Mo on NBC’s dramedy Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at this year’s Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

And prepare to hear Newell at plenty of Pride parties this year because he has contributed to vocals to Vincint’s Song of the Summer contender, “Higher.” We told you he continues to deliver the bops!

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
