Meet the Logo30: Dashaun Wesley

The "Legendary" host on what Pride means to him.

Every day during the month of June, we will be spotlighting our 2020 Logo30. This powerful series profiles ordinary and extraordinary people who show pride in unique and provocative ways. Visit the Logo30 homepage to view current and past honorees.

Whether he's hosting HBO Max's Legendary or vogueing down the runway as Shadow Wintour in FX's Pose, Dashaun Wesley is the embodiment of Pride.

The out actor, dancer, choreographer, and native New Yorker is a mainstay in the Big Apple's house and ballroom community. Recently, Wesley was tapped by HBO Max to host and MC Legendary, its hotly anticipated house and ballroom competition series.

In the tradition of Paris Is Burning, Jennie Livingston’s iconic 1990 documentary, Legendary pits dancers from nine "houses" against each other in an epic battle for a trophy and a cash prize. Each episode tests participants' fashion, dance, and voguing skills with a themed ball.

Speaking to Logo and NewNowNext, Wesley said Pride "is a celebration."

"Pride is knowing and achieving all the things that I want with no doubt, without any words to stop me, without any person in my way," he added. "It's [been] 50 years—50 years of celebrating who we are. And because of what we've been through, because of the change, or because of how we had to make the change—the riots that occurred outside of Stonewall that lasted for five days... I'll always be thankful to those who made a big, powerful impact on our community."

Acting on Pose, MCing the hottest new ball in town—it's all in a day's work for NYC's King of Vogue.
