According to testimony, Szerer invited an unnamed 24-year-old man to the hotel in 2012 under the pretense of applying for an opening that didn't actually exist.

On a tour of the 161-room hotel, he took his victim the Queen’s Suite, a popular room for celebrities. After locking the door, he told the student to "try the bed," then unzipped his pants and forced himself on the young man.

Szerer used his entire body weight to force the student to perform oral sex, Prosecutors stated.

The victim testified he was left “distraught, shaken up, absolutely petrified,” after the attack, but he initially didn't press charges—not until Szerer messaged him on Scruff a year later, saying “Hello stranger."

The message prompted him to contact a victims' hotline and eventually contact police.

When confronted, Szerer claimed he had never used Scruff—and wasn't even gay. He then changed his story to say the victim had sexually assaulted him.

Lee Davison of Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command said Szerer, 39, abused his position as head housekeeper of the Ruben.

“He purposely lured the victim to the hotel on the pretext of a job interview that didn’t exist. He then raped him. Thankfully he has been found guilty and I praise the victim today for his decision to report this rape to the police.”
