Looking, HBO's upcoming dramedy about a group of young gay men chasing love and life in San Francisco, won't screen on the network until January 19. But, after a teaser earlier this week, the first full trailer was released tonight.

How  realistic or engaging the show is remains to be seen, but it definitely has more in common with Weekend, Andrew Haigh's acclaimed relationship drama, than Sex and the City, or even Girls.

The fact that Haigh directed the first episode is no coincidence.

In the clip below, Patrick (Jonathan Groff) muses on the supposed sin of having an actual life. "This is San Francisco; that's why I live here. If I didn't want to have a life, I'd move to L.A."  From this setup, we see the show is going to delve into online dating, open relationships, death (a.k.a. turning 40) and other inevitabilities  of gay life in the City by the Bay.

We're intrigued, HBO. Don't disappoint.

Looking debuts January 19 at 10:30pm on HBO.
