“Loose Women” Makes Talk Show History With First Trans Co-Host

India Willoughby, Britain's first trans news anchor, will join the panel for Transgender Awareness Week.

India Willoughby, the transgender ITV presenter who returned to the network after transitioning in October, is set to become the first trans woman to host an all-female talk show panel.

According to The Mirror, Willoughby will appear as a guest panelist on Loose Women this week to celebrate Trans Awareness Week while educating viewers about issues important to the trans community.

“I just can’t believe it,” Willoughby told the paper. “I absolutely love the show so it’s beyond my wildest dreams to be a guest panellist.”

Willoughby appeared on Loose Women for the first time last month, when her transition made headlines upon her return to the news network.

Calling the gig a “perfect fit,” Willoughby said that her “history will add something different to the mix.”

“All the Loose Women have overcome some sort of adversity, they all carry battle scars and that’s what makes them interesting people,” said Willoughby. “Mine just happened to my body throughout the journey to become my true self.”

She added: “I didn’t want to be considered a novelty. I’ve turned down several TV offers. I want to be working on merit and that’s why it was so perfect for me, because I’m just a girl next door. If I can help others in my situation by becoming a panellist, well that’s terrific.”
