L.A. Chargers Kick Off Viewing Parties For LGBT Football Fans

The traveling series was launched by Venice Pride.

Hut hut! Venice Pride has launched Gay Gridiron, a series of viewing parties designed to rally LGBT football fans.

The traveling series, which kicks off this Sunday at the Basement Tavern in Santa Monica, is supported by the Los Angeles Chargers.

“Equity, diversity, inclusion, and unity are fundamental to who we are as a franchise," says Chargers special advisor Jeffrey Pollack in a statement. “We are proud of our partnership with Venice Pride and want all fans to feel like they are part of the team—home or away.”

"The L.A. Chargers are dedicated to making all communities in L.A. feel welcome," adds Venice Pride executive director Grant Turck. "We are thrilled to support the team’s efforts to raise visibility for the devoted LGBT football fans of L.A."

Hosted by Varsity Gay League, Gay Gridiron’s Sunday launch will feature a Charger Girls photo booth, team giveaways, and big screen TVs so LGBT fans can cheer the Chargers as they take on the Patriots in Massachusetts. The event is free and open to the public but tickets are required.

The Chargers and the L.A. Rams teamed up this past summer with Venice Pride, becoming the first NFL teams to sponsor a Pride event.
