Students Protest Gov. Bobby Jindal's Anti-Gay Prayer Rally At Louisana State

Students at Louisiana State University are protesting the Response, an upcoming prayer rally led by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, that reportedly links homosexuality to floods, hurricanes and other natural disasters.

"The materials The Response is distributing blame extreme weather (i.e. Hurricane Katrina) on LGBT people," the petition reads.  "This is absurd, and the University should not play host to people who hold such marginalizing and extremist views-- especially in light of LSU's supposed commitment to its LGBT students."

Huckaby is also crying foul on an unspoken rule that allows campus groups to expel leaders on the basis of race, gender, orientation and other classes protected in LSU's anti-discrimination policy

When he came out as gay in 2010, Huckaby was asked to step down as a band member and worship team co-leader at The Refuge, a college ministry  group.

Because Refuge is a registered student organization, it must abide by the anti-discrimination policy.  But because Huckaby's exact job description was not included in the Refuge charter, he wasn't officially in a leadership role—and could be axed.

"LSU should not be in the business of carving out a place for discrimination on campus, and I'm strongly opposed to such an exception if it does indeed exist," he says.

And we can't help but agree. What is the point of espousing inclusion and equality if you don't put it into practice?
