Today In Gay: Lucy Loved Gays, Johnny Weir Loves Russia, The 84-Minute Kiss, More

Talk about a Chapstick moment: Artists Idan Bitton and Alfredo Calle Ferran locked lips for an astounding 84 minutes in their collaborative project, First Kiss. Almost as soon as the smooch was posted on YouTube, though, haters flagged it as offensive and it was sent to a moderator. Well, the video platform has put First Kiss back up, much to everyone's delight. "This long lasting, present and unapologetic kiss defines our current gay rights momentum," the artists say in a statement. "We are here, we love each other, and this is what it looks like.

Several Dutch footballers took part in Amsterdam Pride last weekend to show solidarity with Holland's LGBT community, but the gesture didn't sit well with former footie Mateja Kežman, who said "I have a problem" with gay people. Kežman, who played for Chelsea and Atlético Madrid, told reporters, “My opinion is that this is a disease that should not be promoted... The Dutch are moving away from Jesus Christ and are heading towards spiritual destruction.” Well then he really won't be happy with Britain's Professional Footballers’ Association, which is mandating training on homophobic and racist language.

It is a known fact that Johnny Weir loves Russia. Hell, he even married a Russian. Well, the hardcore Russophile says boycotting the Sochi Olympics over the country's anti-gay laws is silly. “To attack Russia is silly," Weir explained on the Today show. "It is not Russia’s public’s fault that their government is so bigoted and creating so many problems for a minority group."  Weir says coming to the Games and shining a spotlight on the issue "is so much more effective if we’re actually in Russia, showing our support."

But he defends his cred as a Friend of Dorothy (Hamill): " “I am very gay. I give Sir Elton John a run for his money... I don’t know if there is anywhere more gay to go."

Archie Comics broke new ground several years ago, when they introduced Kevin Keller, the first gay in Riverdale. (Well, out gay—we have our suspicions about Jughead.) Now they're pushing the envelop even further. In Kevin Keller No. 10, out today, Kevin smooches with his boyfriend, Devon, the first same-sex kiss in Archie history. To give the scene added versimilitude, though, writer Dan Parent included a shrill mother outraged by the kiss. According to Parent, Veronica “records the whole thing and of course uploads it to the Riverdale equivalent of YouTube and that starts a bit of a debate.”

Lucille Ball would have been 102 today, and while we know her as the queen of comedy, she was also one of the first entertainers to embrace her gay fans: In 1980, Lucy  told People magazine she was thrilled with the burgeoning gay-right movement of the time: “It’s perfectly all right with me. Some of the most gifted people I’ve ever met or read about are homosexual. How can you knock it?”

We love Lucy.
