Lucille Ball Statue Terrorizes Small Town

They may love Lucy, but residents of Lucille Ball's hometown Celoron, New York do not love the statue erected in her honor. That's mostly due to the fact that it is completely terrifying.

The statue was originally unveiled in 2009 after being sculpted by artist Dave Poulin. But a recent Facebook page created by an anonymous user titled "We Love Lucy! Get rid of this statue!" is hoping to have the bronze terror replaced.

“Lucille Ball was not only an amazing comedienne, but she was a stunning beauty. Her sense of humor only made her more beautiful,” the group organizer said in an interview with Yahoo News. “This statue looks nothing like the beautiful Lucy we all know. If for no other reason than that... the statue should go.”

Poulin's creation depicts Ball in a scene from the classic “Vitameatavegamin” episode, holding the health tonic with deranged eyes. And despite the small town's love for their hometown hero, many residents agree with the Facebook page creator that it simply must be replaced.

“I think it looks like a monster. That is just my opinion,” the anonymous campaign leader said. “When you see it at night, it is frightening.”

The Celoron mayor has said it would cost between $8,000 and $10,000 to have the statue recast, however, so it doesn't look like the creepy-faced comedienne will be leaving anytime soon.
