Lush Raises $425,000 For LGBT Rights Groups With "Gay Is OK" Soap

LGBT groups are invited to submit grant proposals for a portion of the proceeds.

You don't have to twist our arm to go shopping—but when that retail therapy benefits the global LGBT community, it gives us a special feeling inside.

Lush, the all-natural soap and cosmetics company, has revealed that sales of its #GayIsOK soap this summer have reached $425,000, which will benefit LGBT rights groups.

Some 100,000 bars of the glittery gold bar soap were sold worldwide, the company announced, pushing the campaign well past its target of $400,000.

While a portion of proceeds has already been earmarked for All Out, community groups can submit an application for a $15,000 grant from the "Love Fund." The hope is requests will come from groups in regions blighted by anti-LGBT laws and discrimination.

In fact, Lush was unable to sell the #GayIsOk soap in nearly 80 branches located in countries where homosexuality is illegal or gay "propaganda" is banned.

We're not thrilled Lush is even doing business in those countries, but one thing at a time we suppose.

Lush and All Out invited shoppers to join in the #GayIsOkay social media campaign by posting pictures on Twitter and Instagram with a bar of the soap. Check a few out below.
