Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, is getting ready to marry his boyfriend, Gauthier Destenay, later this week.

The two have been together for five years and got engaged last August, soon after Luxembourg's Chamber of Deputies passed an marriage equality bill.

Bettel and Destenay are expected to have a private ceremony on Friday. "He does not want to put his private life in the public spotlight and he has turned down requests from the celebrity magazines to cover the event," a friend told AFP.

Bettel is currently the only openly gay leader of a country, and only the third ever—following lesbian prime minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir of Iceland and Belgium's Elio Di Rupo.

Interesting factoid: Luxembourg's deputy PM, Etienne Schneider, also happens to be gay. (Who run da 'Bourg?)
