We've been loving Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for months, and Sunday night they got their due at the 2013 BET Awards.  The duo scored "Best Group" at Sunday's ceremony in L.A., which also featured nods to Drake ( Video of the Year for “Started From the Bottom”), Kendrick Lamar (Male Hip Hop Artist and the best New Artist), Miguel (Male R&B/Pop artist), Rihanna (Female R&B/Pop Artist) and Nicki Minaj (Female Hip Hop Artist), who nailed her fourth consecutive win in the category. Minaj, Janelle Monae and Ciara all delivered mindblowing sets at the annual show.

Macklemore's win in the category wasn't without controversy: Firstly, their ode to marriage equality, "Same Love" (which finally hit the Billboard 100 last week), isn't exactly the kind of topic covered in the world of rap and hip-hop. And some complained giving the honor to two Seattle white guys went against the show's foundation as a platform for minority artists. (Oh, please!)

"Same Love" was inspired by Referendum 74, the measure that successfully legalized same-sex marriage in Washington State.

The 2013 BET Awards airs July 2 at 6:30pm on BET
