A Character Just Came Out As Bisexual On "Madam Secretary" And It Gave Us Chills

“I’ve gotten used to keeping people at arm’s length.”

Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord's personal assistant came out to her as bisexual in this week's episode of Madam Secretary and her reaction was perfect.

The touching scene opens with Mike Moran (Erich Bergen) admitting to McCord (Téa Leoni) that he's bi as she drops him off at his home. She thinks he's simply saying bye, which causes him to launch into a somewhat rambling, yet sweet speech about his sexuality and why it's hard for him to be open with others about it.

"This is hard for me because I’ve experienced a lot of weird bi-phobia from everyone: gay people, straight people," he explains. "I’ve gotten used to keeping people at arm’s length."

"But I realize now it's maybe kind of the opposite, that if I can’t be honest with people about who I am then how can I ever have an honest experience with them?"

Though McCord hardly speaks in the scene, it's clear in her eyes that she loves him for who he is. And after he's finished, she demonstrates this support by getting out of the car, walking to his side and giving him a long, heartfelt hug before simply saying, "Goodnight."
