Madonna and Miley Cyrus Team Up For "MTV Unplugged"

Is 2014 the year of the power-duet?  First we heard about Madonna's team up with Adele, then Barbra Streisand went along and signed up Lady Gaga and Beyonce for her next album, then Meryl Streep and 50 Cent released a hit new single (we wish!) — and now this! According to E! News, Madonna was spotted rehearsing with Miley Cyrus in preparation for her upcoming MTV Unplugged special.

"The performance will showcase a more intimate side of Cyrus and feature surprise guests for an unexpected re-invention of the songs that have defined her career, including several from her #1 critically acclaimed album, Bangerz," said an MTV representative before the Madge reveal. "Miley and her fans have always had an intimate and direct connection through her music, personality and no-holds-barred attitude and the Unplugged stage will serve as the perfect platform for her to show viewers what inspires and ignites her music and her passions."

Comparisons between Miley and Madonna have been virtually omnipresent on the internet, especially after Miley's controversial VMA performance last year — AKA the twerk heard round the world — which was compared to Madonna's earlier transgressive performances.  But will birds of a feather flock together; will the two personalities get along?

No word yet on what song the two princesses of provocation will be singing (please let it be "Hung up"!) but the pairing was caught preparing for the taping, scheduled to occur today.  The special will air on Wednesday at 9pm on MTV.
