Madonna’s Homeless Brother Speaks Out

Anthony Ciccone lives under a bridge in Traverse City, Michigan. He hasn’t spoken to his famous sister, Madonna, in years. The eldest of eight children, Ciccone was thrown off his family’s vineyard due to drug and alcohol problems. Now, he wanders the streets of Michigan’s “cherry capital” in between free meals and booze at local homeless shelters.

In an interview with UK paper The Sun, the 55-year-old Ciccone reveals that his famous, rich sibling wants nothing to do with him. "I haven't had anything to do with Madonna in years. I doubt if she cares about my predicament,” he told the paper. “I know I could tell stories about her but I won't. She wants nothing to do with me. She has her life.”

Things weren’t always this dismal for Madonna’s older brother. Once upon a time, he lived in a rent-controlled apartment in New York City’s East Village. From there, he moved to Hollywood to work as a carpenter on movie sets. He also performed in videos, commercials and on TV shows, though never with his famous sister. It all went downhill, he claims, when he moved back home to Michigan to help out at the family vineyard.

Ciccone calls himself both the red-headed stepchild and black sheep of his family. “A year or so ago my father ordered me out. I had nowhere else to go. I have an ex-partner and a son out in the Midwest who I haven't seen in years. And although I am the eldest of eight children, my siblings don't want to know.” Residents of the town paint a different picture. A woman who owns a café near the bridge where Anthony hangs out told The Sun, “The family have tried but there's nothing more they can do.”

Anthony Ciccone is not the first one of Madonna’s siblings to receive the cold shoulder. Her brother Christopher published a memoir entitled Life With My Sister Madonna in 2008. The book climbed to number two on The New York Times Best Seller List.
