Madonna Launches Fundraiser for Malawi Charity

The "Material Girl" doesn't want gifts for her 60th birthday this year.

Madonna is celebrating her upcoming 60th birthday by raising money for her Raising Malawi foundation.

“I have an unwavering commitment to providing vulnerable children with a loving home. For my birthday, I can think of no better gift than connecting my global family with this beautiful country and the children who need our help most,” Madge said in a statement on Facebook.

“Every dollar raised will go directly to meals, schools, uniforms, and health care. I want to come together with my friends, fans, and supporters to change the lives of Malawian children and let them know they are nurtured, protected and loved.”

The pop icon launched the fundraiser on July 30 in partnership with Facebook. It runs through August 31st.

Madonna founded Raising Malawi in 2006 to address the poverty and hardship endured by Malawi’s orphans and vulnerable children. Earlier this month, Madonna shared a photograph on social media with all six of her children taken during a recent visit to Mercy James Pediatric Hospital, a Malawi hospital named after her daughter, Mercy James.
