It's Official! Madonna to Appear at NYC Pride

Madame X will cha-cha over to Pride Island on Sunday, June 30.

The rumors are true!

After months of speculation, Madonna made the announcement this morning on Today that she will make an appearance at Pride Island on Sunday, June 30, during Pride weekend. The official press release says the queen of pop is "expected to perform a few songs" at the event.

"I hear you! I'll be on Pride Island, where I was born," Madame X said in a video showing her on a beach, wrapped in a rainbow towel.

Even without a headliner announced, tickets for Sunday's Pride Island festival have been sold out for months, with many guessing that Madonna would be performing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots—and to promote her new album, Madame X.

“The community called loud and clear for an appearance by Madonna at Pride Island for WorldPride and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. I'm thrilled to report that Madonna and WorldPride NYC delivered on that call,” said Chris Frederick, NYC Pride's Executive Director. “This is going to be a night that our Pride Island guests will remember for the rest of their lives.”

Previously, Grace Jones was announced as the headliner for Saturday's concert, along with other performers including Teyana Taylor and Brazilian drag superstar Pabllo Vittar. Afro-Latina pop artist Amara La Negra and DJ Johnny Dynell will also hit the stage that Saturday.

Kylie Minogue and Tove Lo headlined last year’s Pride Island weekend. Madonna + WorldPride? This is going to be epic.

NYC Pride Island will take place June 29 and 30 at Pier 97 in New York.
