During a concert August 9th, Madonna—the original popstar to champion gay rights—defied St. Petersburg's recently enacted gag order on pro-LGBT speech, calling on Russians to embrace gay and lesbian citizens. "We want to fight for the right to be free," she said to thousands of attendees wearing pink wristbands.

In response, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin tweeted, “What a has-been... in their old age every former whore tries to lecture everyone on morality. Especially on overseas tours.” Well, at least he wrote former. The foul-mouthed, yet demure Deputy Prime Minister, who also referred to the Material Girl as a "moralizing slut," refused to spell out the epithet in his tweets.

Harsh words from pols aside, Madonna's rhetoric could earn her tour a 500,000 RUB ($15,700) fine. Despite opposition from lawmakers, fans cheered as she implored them to fight back. "Show your love and appreciation to the gay community," she said. The crowd roared in the affirmative when Madge asked, "Are you motherf*cking with me?"
