Maggie Szabo's New Music Video Tells Trans Youth "Don't Give Up"

“I can’t stand by and watch millions of transgender youth live in fear."

Maggie Szabo just premiered her new music video, “Don’t Give Up,” and the Canadian pop singer is dedicating it to trans youth.

"Everyone knows this world ain’t perfect," the heartfelt, power ballad tells listeners. "But what you got goin’ on makes you worthy."

The video sees a high schooler heading to prom with their date. and not to thrilled about it.

Surprisingly, they're offered the chance to strip off their dress and makeup and don the tux and bowtie they really want to wear.

The couple, played by Shadia Martin and Ethan Mullins, then slow dances together in the garage, free of judgment or harassment.

"I am so thankful that people are standing behind the video and showing support for transgender kids,” Szabo tells NewNowNext. “I hope that we can continue to create awareness and inspire love, togetherness, and equality.”

She's donating part of the proceeds from “Don’t Give Up” to New York's Ali Forney Center, the nation's largest homeless shelter for LGBT youth. “Society needs to stand up,” Szabo writes on her website. “I can’t stand by and watch millions of transgender youth live in fear for their safety, outcast from their homes and marginalized by society simply because they are struggling to understand their gender identity. I want to stand with them.”
