Then And Now: The Male Supermodels Of The 1990s

Some looks never go out of style.

When you think of ’90s supermodels, you think Linda, Naomi and Cindy. And while those ladies were the queens of the runway, we can’t forget about the men whose visages graced magazines and catwalks the world over (and helped many of us experience our first sexual awakenings).

Below, we look back at some of the hottest male models of the 1990s and check in with them today.

  1. Marcus Schenkenberg

    Bruce Weber for Calvin Klein

Marcus Schenkenberg hit supermodel status in the early ’90s thanks to starring in campaigns for Versace and Calvin Klein.

  2. Jason Lewis

    Guess

Before winning Samantha’s heart as Smith Jerrod on Sex & the City, Jason Lewis won our hearts as a member of the ’90s male supermodel clan. Now 46, Lewis is back on the small screen, as a gay angel on NBC’s Midnight, Texas

  3. Mark Vanderloo

    Guess

Every major fashion house wanted Mark Vanderloo in the ’90s, and who can blame them? He landed campaigns with Calvin Klein, Versace, Hugo Boss, DKNY and Guess, to name a few.

Now 49, the Dutch hunk is still modeling—he’s appeared in campaigns for Ettore Bugatti and his likeness was used for the male version of Commander Shepard in the popular Mass Effect video game series.

  4. Tyson Beckford

    Ralph Lauren

In 1993 Tyson Beckford was recruited by Ralph Lauren to front the company’s Polo sportswear, appearing in enough sexy shoots to be named one of VH1’s “40 Hottest Hotties of the ’90s.”

Now 46, he’s proving to be just as dreamy in the 21st century. After hosting two seasons of Make Me a Supermodel and starring in the movie Chocolate City, Beckord is still making panties wet as part of Chippendales Las Vegas.

  5. Joel West

    Calvin Klein

Discovered by a photographer at a Dairy Queen, Joel West was soon baring it (almost) all for Calvin Klein.

Since the ’90s, he’s transitioned to acting on shows like Heroes and CSI: Miami, and keeps trim by cycling.

Alex Lundqvist’s career began in the summer of 1994, when he was spotted by a Wilhelmina agent who booked him for a global Versace campaign.

    Hugo Boss

He went on to work with Guess, Hugo Boss and Lagerfeld, cementing his place in the ’90s male-model hall of fame.

Today the 41-year-old Swede still takes the occasional modeling gig—like Oliver People’s 30th anniversary campaign.
