Male Underwear Models No Longer Steroid-y, Just Pieces Of Meat. Why?

[caption id="attachment_62435" align="aligncenter" width="607"] This is Colby Melvin. he's not just a piece of meat, people.[/caption]

For reasons unknown, The New York Times decided to do a feature on male underwear models and their ad campaigns. (Not that we're complaining). The takeaway? These models are thinner than before, and we're getting less package and more face. Well that sucks.

The Times sat in on a meeting with 2(x)ist about their latest campaign. (The folks from  2(x)ist seem blissfully unaware of what we actually like about underwear ads.) Publicist James LaForce said of this new direction, “We are giving the models an identity, so they are not just a piece of meat.”

Huh? Why?

It got worse from there, with Vic Drabicky, the founder of January Digital and a man who clearly never wants to make us happy, added: “We are taking the focus off the crotch shots.”

These people are monsters.

As for the models' looks, it seems that thin is in: “We are going for something a little more statuesque, and a little less steroid-y," noted designer Jason Scarlatt.

Well at least we can get behind that. Figuratively, of course.
