Man Jailed For Secretly Filming Tryst With Closeted Guy And Posting on Porn Site

The video was uploaded to XTube and viewed more than 150,000 times.

Matthew Christian, a London-based celebrity PR manager, was sentenced this week to serve jail time for secretly filming an online hookup with a bisexual man who was unaware that he was being filmed.

Christian met the victim on barebackparty.com and after filming their encounter, Christian then uploaded the video to XTube where the clip was viewed more than 150,000 times before it was pulled. It was also shared on "dozens of other sites."

The victim's face could be seen clearly in the video, essentially outing him as only close family and friends knew of his bisexuality, according to the Daily Mail.

At Christian's trial this week Judge Joanna Greenberg QC handed him 22 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months.

"The private lives of each and every one of us is something that we are entitled to have respected," said Greenberg. "In your case you abused the trust placed in you by the victim because he expected that his privacy would be respected."

"His private life was not something he had revealed to his family. It was his choice when and how he revealed it. I’m in no doubt that you knew the victim’s family were unaware of his sexuality. Your conduct exposed him to something like 150,000 viewers."

Christian was also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £1,500 in compensation and complete a 20 day rehabilitation requirement. He will also be listed on the sex offenders register for the next seven years.

"What you did was a cruel and wicked thing to do," Greenberg added.

The victim also spoke out saying how he was "not sure how I will ever be able to break out and break free of this fear, and I have lost out on the opportunity to form relationships with other men."

"I was not ready mentally or emotionally to come out of the closet," he sad in a statement.

When Christian was arrested last year he claimed he thought the victim knew their encounter was being filmed.

The PR manager, who has worked with big names like Vivienne Westwood and celebrities from Strictly Come Dancing, lost his job when the victim sent an email to his work colleagues alerting them to what Christian had done.

Christian says he was "high on coke and crystal meth" when he uploaded the video. The men met three times for sex in 2015 and it was on the second occasion that Christian filmed their encounter.

Sarah Day, a spokesperson for Christian, notes that he has gotten married and is now sober and has found another PR job since he uploaded the video:

"He’s now married, providing a level of stability in his personal life meaning that no meetings such as this would be forthcoming in the future. Mr Christian has made significant changes in terms of his lifestyle - changes that would ensure that no activity such as this would occur in the future."
