According to victim Blake Abbey, 25-year-old Timothy Brownell approached him and two friends who were walking home around 11:44pm near 21st and O streets, and repeatedly stabbed all three in an unprovoked slashing attack while calling them "faggots for wearing tight jeans."

"Nothing was done to provoke this," Alex Lyman, one of the victims, told the LA Times. He along with his two friends, all musicians, described the attack on Facebook.

Said Abbey: "We did nothing to provoke them. We were in the wrong place at the wrong time. My arm was completely mangled by a 7-8 inch Rambo knife. I got out of surgery a few hours ago and I'm still in shock this happened to us."

In another post, Abbey described his frustration in knowing Brownell was released on bail after committing such a horrific crime.

"I can't sleep," he said. "I can't even feel the top of my arm and this guy gets released from jail over night [without] a scratch on him. He has no idea what I'm going thru physically and mentally."

Brownell was initially arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and possessing a firearm, but was later released on bail. Police issued a warrant for his arrest Monday after the attack was reclassified as a hate crime, and Brownell turned himself in Tuesday evening.

In the meantime, supporters have organized an "I wear skinny jeans" benefit concert, which promises to donate all proceeds to "the victims of this brutal assault."
