Mariah Carey Explains What's Wrong With Today's Pop Stars, Rallies With Beyoncé

These are some fighting words!

Mariah Carey has dropped a truckload of shade on today's pop stars (pointedly directed at her arch nemesis Ariana Grande, we're sure) with a bold statement about the ways they rise to fame without putting in the work.

"I think now it's more about people selling themselves, like online. It's more about, 'Here's what I did today. Let me do something and shock the world,' rather than so much about the music," the five-time Grammy award-winning singer recently told Business Insider.

There are some artists where it is about the music and that's great," she said. "But I just look at it like, it's different than when you had to start out and people had to either connect with your song or not."

"Whereas now you can become a big artist without even necessary having a number one record because of how many followers you have."

This tea is scalding but it definitely wasn't brewed for an artist like Beyoncé, whom Mariah linked up with at last night's HeartView Global Foundation benefit in Los Angeles.

The two industry titans looked stunning, per usual, and even posed for an Instagram shot Mariah captioned, "Two girls, one cause."

Claps for real talent ???
