Mariah Carey Will Bless Televisions Everywhere By Appearing On "Empire" Season 2
It's official: the most elusive of all chanteuses, Ms. Mariah Carey, is re-teaming with director Lee Daniels for an unspecified role in the upcoming second season of Empire.
“She’s very underestimated as an actor,” Daniels said in an interview with Variety. “Directed properly, she’s a tour de force. A lot of the time, she can be intimidating because she’s a strong-willed woman. She needs a strong director who grasps her and they can lean on each other. I think that directors that are brave will see that.”
While Daniels would not reveal details on who the singer will play (“I’m already in trouble with my publicist," he remarked) she will join a laundry list of talent already confirmed for the show's second season including Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Marisa Tomei, Lenny Kravitz, Common, Gabourey Sidibe and most importantly: Oprah.
It's been a big week for the 5-time Grammy Award-winner, who earlier this week was joined by Daniels as her star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame was unveiled.
Daniels has been a long-time supporter of Mariah Carey, first casting her in his feature Tennessee, before giving her supporting roles in Precious and The Butler.
“She has certainly proven herself, good lord. Repeatedly," Daniels commented. "I’m very excited to see where she goes on Empire.”
As Wendy Williams always says, we'll be watching.
