She may a little bit country, but she’s a whole lot of awesome. The only girl in her family’s extensive Mormon brood of brothers, Marie Osmond is most definitely on our side, as evidenced by a recent interview with Diane Sawyer, whom she tells that she is a proponent of gay marriage. “The God that I believe in is a god of love, not fear,” said the devout Mormon, whose daughter, Jessica, is openly gay. She continued, “I believe in [my daughter’s] civil rights, as a mother. I think my daughter deserves everything that she desires in life. She’s a good girl. She’s a wonderful child. I don’t think God made one color flower. I think he made many…”
It’s a tricky subject, since Marie’s siblings are clearly on a different page, after her brothers held a “pro-family” rally at the Utah Capitol just last week meant to “benefit the protection of marriage,” on the same day the Supreme Court weighed the same question about DOMA.
In 2009, Marie told Los Angeles radio station KOST a vaguely less tolerant view on her daughter’s future, saying, “When it comes to marriage … I think that civil rights need to be for all. When you start mixing religion into that and beliefs, you know, I do believe in the Bible. My daughter understands my beliefs.”
It’s nice to see she’s evolved. Now, onto Donny.
